Interview with Wilson Goode, winner of $100,000 2006 Purpose Prize

Wilson Goode is one of the winners of the 2006 Purpose Prize Awards. He is perhaps best known for his two terms as mayor of Philadelphia (from 1984 to 1992). But in 2000, at age 62, Goode earned a Doctorate of Ministry and took a job as director of Amachi, a nonprofit established to help the 7 million children who have one or both parents either in jail, on parole, or under state or federal supervision. The problem was close to his heart — when he was 14, Goode’s father was sent to jail for assaulting Goode’s mother. (more…)

John Francis, Planet Walker

John Francis met up with Better World Network reporter Tom Munnecke on the beach in La Jolla, California. John tells a most amazing story of his personal “Do Something Moment” that lead to his remaining silent for 17 years while earning a PhD in Environmental Sciences. Ethan Zohn’s “Do Something Moment”

Ethan Zohn, winner of Survivor: Africa and co-founder of Grassroot Soccer

Ethan Zohn, pictured above at the first Better World Media Workshop in New York, is winner of Survivor: Africa reality TV show. He will give a Better World Radio episode about his Do Something Moment in Africa. After discovering that the children he was playing with were dying of AIDS, he decided to use his $1 million show winnings to fight HIV/AIDS. He is now using his celebrity to promote HIV/AIDS prevention via Grass Root Soccer and frequent college speaking engagements. (more…)
